Stretch Mark Treatment in Muscat: What Can and Cannot Be Changed
Start with the sentence that most pages in this field bury at the bottom. Stretch marks are scars, and scars do not disappear. They form in the layer beneath the surface, where the collagen and elastin fibres have torn, and no laser, cream, needle or oil puts that layer back the way it was. What good treatment genuinely does is change how they look: smoother texture, a colour closer to the skin around them, and lines that stop catching the light. Many people are very happy with that. Nobody is happy with being promised removal and getting improvement. At Azura Clinic in Sarooj, Muscat we will tell you which of the two is realistic for your marks before you book anything.
Red or White Decides More Than Any Device
If you remember one thing from this page, make it this. The age and colour of a stretch mark predicts the result better than the choice of machine.
- New marks, red, pink or purple. These are still inflamed and still have active blood vessels, which means the skin is still responding. This is the stage where treatment achieves the most, and it is the stage people usually wait out because they hope the marks will fade on their own.
- Old marks, white or silver. These have lost their pigment and settled into a thin, slightly sunken scar. They can be improved in texture, and the edge can be softened, but a white mark will not be returned to your normal skin colour, because the pigment cells in it are gone.
There is an honest local consequence of that second point: white stretch marks do not tan. As the skin around them darkens in the sun, they become more visible rather than less, which is why people often notice them most in summer. Sun protection on those areas does more for their appearance than most products sold for them.
Where They Come From, and What Is Not Your Fault
The largest single factor is genetics: how much your skin can stretch before the fibres tear is inherited, which is why two people can go through the same pregnancy and only one gets marks. The others are ordinary life.
- Growth in adolescence, which is when many people get their first ones, often on the back, thighs or chest.
- Pregnancy.
- Rapid weight gain or loss, in either direction.
- Fast muscle gain, which is why they appear on shoulders and arms in people who train hard.
- Strong steroid creams used for a long time, which thin the skin and cause marks exactly where they were applied. This is one more reason we keep warning about unprescribed creams bought online or abroad.
One medical note worth taking seriously: if you have wide purple marks appearing quickly without a growth spurt, pregnancy or weight change, especially with weight gathering around the trunk, a rounder face, easy bruising or muscle weakness, please see a doctor about the cause before booking any cosmetic treatment. That pattern can have a hormonal explanation, and treating the surface would be treating the wrong thing.
What We Offer, and What It Costs
- Fotona for stretch marks: a laser treatment that works on skin regeneration and collagen remodelling to smooth texture and improve tone. 70 OMR to 203 OMR a session, following the size of the area.
- RF microneedling for stretch marks: microneedling combined with radiofrequency energy, so the collagen stimulation happens deeper than needling alone. This one has no published price because it follows the area and the depth needed, so you get the figure at the consultation.
Which of the two suits you depends on the colour and age of the marks, your skin type and where they are. Related pages, since stretch marks sit between two categories: scar reduction, because that is what these are, and RF microneedling for the same technology used elsewhere on the body.
What Does Not Work, Said Plainly
- Creams and oils marketed for stretch marks. Keeping skin moisturised is good for skin and does nothing to a tear in the dermis. No topical product reaches that layer.
- Anything described as removal. The word is a marketing choice, not a clinical outcome, and it is the single clearest sign to be careful about who you are dealing with.
- Dry brushing, scrubbing and strong exfoliation, which irritate the surface above a scar without changing the scar.
- Tanning to blend them in. It does the opposite, for the reason explained above.
- Treatment while you are pregnant or breastfeeding, which we do not do. If marks appeared in pregnancy, the sensible plan is to let the skin settle first and then look at them.
What To Expect
These treatments are done in the clinic with numbing cream, and you go back to your day afterwards. Expect the area to be red and warm, and after microneedling expect it to feel like mild sunburn and look slightly swollen while it settles. The change is gradual because it depends on collagen rebuilding, so what you are judging is a slow improvement in texture rather than a before-and-after of the kind this industry likes to publish. How many sessions and how far apart is decided for your skin at the consultation, since it depends on the colour, the age and the extent of the marks.
Two things genuinely protect the result: keeping your weight steady, because new stretching makes new marks, and sun protection on the treated area. Treated skin is more sensitive to sun, and sun on healing skin causes pigmentation that is harder to fix than what you came for.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take blood thinners or isotretinoin, if you have used strong steroid creams on the area, if you scar badly or form raised scars, if you get cold sores, and if your skin has ever darkened after a laser or a peel.
