Gel Filler in Muscat: Volume, and Only Volume

Filler does one thing. It puts volume where volume has been lost, and it does it immediately. Everything else attributed to it in advertising belongs to a different treatment: it does not tighten loose skin, it does not brighten dull skin, and it does nothing to a line made by muscle movement. The most expensive mistake in this field is filling a face that actually needed lifting, and the second is filling a face that needed nothing. At Azura Clinic in Sarooj, Muscat a specialist dermatologist works out which of those three your face is before a syringe is opened.

What we use is hyaluronic acid gel, a substance the skin already contains, injected to restore volume, soften deep lines and refine contour. It is commonly used in the lips, the cheeks, the jawline and the under-eye area, and the figures below are for a session.

What We Offer, and What It Costs

• Gel filler: 70 OMR to 164 OMR, with the final figure following the area, the product chosen for it and how much is needed. Most fillers are supplied with lidocaine already in them and numbing cream is used as well, so patients usually describe a pinch or pressure rather than pain.

You see a change the same day, which makes filler unlike almost everything else in this clinic, where results build over months. The flip side of that immediacy is that it is also the treatment where overcorrection is visible immediately, which is why the answer is sometimes less than you asked for.

The Safety Section, Because This One Matters

Filler is sold casually. It is not a casual procedure, and these are the facts worth knowing before anyone injects you, here or anywhere.

• Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved, and we keep the enzyme that does it. Hyaluronidase breaks hyaluronic acid down, so a result you dislike is reversible and, more importantly, an emergency can be treated here and immediately rather than sent elsewhere. That is the single strongest reason to accept only hyaluronic acid.
• Never accept permanent filler, silicone or an unnamed substance. If it cannot be dissolved and it is in the wrong place, it stays in the wrong place. Ask for the product name and see the box.
• The serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel. It is uncommon, and it is why this is a medical procedure: blocked blood supply can damage skin and, very rarely, affect vision. The highest-risk areas are between the eyebrows, the nose and the under-eye, which is exactly where cheap injectables are often offered.
• So ask two questions of any clinic: who is injecting, and what happens if something goes wrong. A clinic that cannot answer the second question should not be doing the first. Our own answer: a specialist dermatologist injects, and hyaluronidase is kept on site.
• Nothing bought online goes into your face. Needle-free "pen" devices and filler sold on social media are a genuine cause of serious harm, not an internet rumour.
• Tell us about every filler you have ever had. Old filler can sit in tissue long after you assume it has gone, and it changes what should be injected and where. This is not a test you can fail; it is information we need.

When Filler Is the Wrong Answer

• Lines that appear when you move and vanish when your face is still. That is muscle, so it is botox territory, and filling it will make the area heavy.
• Skin that has lost firmness rather than volume. See lifting and collagen stimulation, or thread lift when tissue needs repositioning.
• Dull, dry or crepey skin. That is a quality problem, and skin boosters work on quality. Filler in thin skin makes the thinness more obvious.
• Fullness under the chin. That is the opposite problem; see double chin treatment.
• Wanting to look like a photograph. We will say honestly when a face cannot be turned into another face, and when what is being asked for would look wrong in motion even if it looks right in a mirror.

Before Your Appointment

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take blood thinners, if you have an autoimmune condition, if you are on antibiotics or have any active infection, and if you get cold sores: lip filler can trigger an outbreak, and that is manageable if we know in advance. Say if you have dental work or a vaccination planned, so the timing can be arranged sensibly, and bring the names of any previous injections.

Avoid alcohol and, with your own doctor's agreement, anything that thins the blood beforehand, because both make bruising more likely. Come without makeup if you can.

What To Expect Afterwards

Expect swelling, tenderness and often bruising, especially in the lips, which swell more than people expect. Expect small firm areas that settle as the gel integrates and the swelling goes. Do not judge the result while you are swollen, and do not let anyone judge it for you on the day. A review appointment to assess and fine-tune is normal rather than a sign that something went wrong.

You will be asked to keep the area alone for a while: no massage or pressure on it, no sauna, steam or intense heat, no strenuous exercise immediately, and sleep on your back if the lips or cheeks were treated. How long the result lasts and when it should be refreshed differs from person to person and depends on the product, the area and your own metabolism, so your doctor will tell you what to expect for your own face rather than quoting an average.

Come back to us, promptly and without waiting, if you have severe or increasing pain, skin that turns white, blue or mottled, any change in vision, or spreading redness and heat. These are the situations where fast action matters, and we would far rather see you for nothing.
