How It Works, and the Condition It Depends On

The threads carry tiny barbs or cones along their length. Those act as anchors: they grip the tissue under the skin and hold it where the doctor has repositioned it. Over the following weeks the body builds collagen around each thread, and the threads themselves dissolve and are absorbed, leaving the collagen behind.

Everything about the result depends on one thing, and it is worth hearing it before you pay: a thread needs elastic skin to pull against. On a face that still has recoil, the lift holds and looks natural. On skin that has lost its elasticity, the same thread pulls through tissue that cannot hold it, and the result fades quickly or looks uneven. That is why the answer here is sometimes no, and why a clinic willing to say no is worth more to you than one willing to sell.

We do two thread treatments. Neither has a fixed published price, and that is deliberate rather than an omission: the cost follows how many threads your face needs and the number is decided after you are examined, so any figure printed here would be a guess. • Midface thread lift: the cheeks and the area that carries the midface. It suits mild to moderate cheek sagging, flattened cheekbones and early jowl formation, and it lifts and refreshes rather than replacing what a surgical lift does.
• Neck thread lift: loose or sagging neck tissue, without general anaesthesia, scalpels or a significant recovery.

Threads or Endolift: The Question People Actually Ask

These are the two treatments that work under the skin rather than on it, so they are compared constantly and the difference is simple.

• Threads reposition. The tissue is physically moved and held. You see a change in position straight away, and the collagen comes later.
• Endolift tightens. A very fine laser fibre heats tissue from underneath, so the change is a shrinking and firming that arrives gradually. Nothing is repositioned.

Which one fits depends on whether your problem is where the tissue sits or how slack it is, and plenty of faces would do better with the laser than with threads. If what you need is skin quality rather than either, that is lifting and collagen stimulation or skin boosters. If the real issue is lost volume, a thread pulled across a hollow cheek will not fill it, and filler is the honest answer.

What We Tell Every Patient Before They Agree

• The threads dissolve, so the lift is maintained rather than permanent. How long it holds differs from person to person and depends on your skin, which is why we will not quote you a figure.
• This is a medical procedure, not a facial. It must be done by a doctor who knows the anatomy of the layer the thread passes through. Threads are being offered in places where nobody present is qualified to manage a complication; ask who is doing it, here or anywhere.
• Expect some dimpling or puckering at first. Small irregularities where a thread was anchored are common early and usually settle. Knowing that in advance is the difference between a normal recovery and a panic.
• Mild asymmetry is possible, because two sides of a face are never identical and tissue does not always respond identically.
• Rarely a thread end can be felt or seen, or an area becomes infected. Both are manageable, and both are reasons to come back to us rather than to wait.
• It will not do what a facelift does. If your skin is genuinely lax, we will say that a surgical opinion is the honest route, and we would rather lose the booking than take it.

Before and After

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take blood thinners, if you have a clotting or autoimmune condition, if you get frequent cold sores, if you have an active infection or inflamed skin in the area, and about every filler, thread or booster you have had before and roughly when, because what is already in the tissue changes where a thread can safely go.

Afterwards, expect swelling and tenderness, possibly some bruising, and a feeling of tightness when you open your mouth wide or turn your neck. You will be asked to sleep on your back, to avoid facial massage and strenuous exercise for a while, to keep wide mouth movements small, and to delay dental work that holds the mouth open. These are not arbitrary rules: all of them protect threads while the anchoring tissue settles. Full settling is gradual, so judge the result when the swelling has gone and not in the first days.
