What Is Botox and How Does It Work?

Botox is an injectable neurotoxin that relaxes muscles temporarily. It’s widely used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, and is also effective in treating hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and chronic migraines.

At Azura Clinic, we use two trusted brands:

  • Dysport – for soft, natural diffusion
  • Allergan – for high precision and longevity

Botox (Dysport) – Fast, Natural Results

Dysport is known for its quick onset (2–3 days) and subtle, natural-looking finish. It spreads slightly more than Allergan, making it perfect for full-face softening.

Available Treatments with Dysport:

  • Full Face Botox (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet)
  • 1 Area
  • Underarm Sweating
  • Hand Sweating
  • Foot Sweating
  • Migraine Relief

Botox (Allergan) – Precise & Long-Lasting

Botox by Allergan is the industry benchmark for targeted wrinkle smoothing and lasting results (up to 4 months). It starts working in 3–5 days with minimal risk and downtime.

Available Treatments with Allergan:

  • Full Face Botox (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet)
  • 1 Area
  • Underarm Sweating
  • Hand Sweating
  • Foot Sweating
  • Migraine Relief

Common Botox Treatment Areas

Before / After Treatment

Before Treatment Instructions
1. Avoid Blood Thinners
Refrain from taking medications or supplements that thin the blood for 3–5 days before your appointment, unless prescribed by your doctor. These include:

Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil), Naproxen

Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Omega-3, Ginkgo Biloba

2. Skip Alcohol & Caffeine
Avoid alcohol and high-caffeine drinks for 24 hours before treatment. These can increase your risk of bruising or swelling.

3. Do Not Schedule Before an Event
Schedule your Botox appointment at least 1–2 weeks before any major event, as minor swelling or bruising may occur.

4. Postpone if You're Unwell
If you’re experiencing cold, flu, fever, or any skin infections, please reschedule your appointment. Your safety comes first.

5. Inform Your Specialist
Let your provider know if you:

Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Have had recent cosmetic procedures (e.g., fillers, peels, lasers)

Are on medications or have allergies
After Treatment Instructions
1. Avoid Lying Down for 4 Hours:
Do not lie down or sleep for at least 4 hours
after the treatment. This prevents the Botox
from potentially migrating to other areas of
the face.
You should remain upright during this time to
ensure the Botox stays localized in the
treatment area

2. Avoid Rubbing or Massaging the
Treated Area:
Do not rub, massage, or press the treated
area for at least 24 hours after your Botox
treatment. This will prevent the Botox from
spreading to unintended areas.
Avoid any facial treatments (e.g., facials or
massages) on the treated area for 24 hours.

3. Avoid Alcohol for 24 Hours:
Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours
after your Botox treatment. Alcohol can
increase the risk of bruising and swelling

4. Avoid Sun Exposure and Heat:
Avoid direct sun exposure and hot environments
(like saunas or steam rooms) for at least 24
hours after treatment. Heat can increase
swelling and cause the Botox to spread to
unintended areas.
Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to
protect the treated area from UV damage.

5. Be Aware of Mild Side Effects:
Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the
injection sites is common and should subside
within a few days. You may also experience
headaches or tightness in the treated area,
which are usually temporary.
If you notice any severe pain, asymmetry, or
unusual side effects, contact your provider
immediately.

6. No Strenuous Exercise for 24 Hours:
Avoid strenuous exercise (e.g., cardio,
weightlifting) for at least 24 hours after the
treatment. Exercise can increase blood flow,
leading to more swelling or bruising

7. Follow-Up Appointments:
You will typically start to see the effects of Botox within 3-5 days, with the full results
appearing after 7-14 days.
If necessary, follow-up appointments can be scheduled to assess the results, and
additional Botox may be injected to achieve the desired effect.
